Throne for Ogun and Elegua

Throne for Ogun and Elegua

Throne for Ogun and Elegua, Ocha house of Alberto and Tina Calvo, Matanzas, Cuba, June 2003. This throne for Elegua was made for a celebration of two Ocha birthdays (Ogun and Obatala), the crowning and presentation of a new initiate of Ogun, and a tambor for Elegua. Consequently, Elegua’s throne is made around a large Ogun pot, with all the Eleguas, Oguns and Ochosis of the house at its foot. The boughs were hung with toys for the children, which Elegua distributed when he joined the tambor later that evening. The plaza included fruits (mangoes), roasted platanos, roasted boniato (sweet potato), and a cake.
