Oru Seco

Oru Seco

The difference in Matanzas is that at the end of the oru seco, when the drummers begin to drum for the honored Orisha(s), the akpon sings for that Orisha. The sung part of the Oru can last for as long as 15-20 minutes. After the oro in front of the throne, the drummers move to where the dancing will take place and play and sing a full oru, during which the Santeros salute the drums as songs for their Orisha are being played. After this oru cantado (“sung” cycle) the singing and dancing is focused on the Orishas being honored and/or any Orishas who come to dance.
